should i go watch Ed Harcourt at the 100 Club tomorrow night?

i should actually start on the essay. i still have another gig to go for, and it's not funny. (this one i'm not particularly keen, but i've bought the ticket already.)

i've just spent the afternoon with an old friend - we started off as penfriends (through the BBC's Dave Lee Travis music programme, weird huh?) and along the way met up when i visited London before. we've kept in touch ever since - usually twice a year missives that go on for quite a few pages. we were sort of in the middle of our yearly correspondence when i arrived here, and it suddenly occured to me that i should try to contact her, so i wrote her a letter the old fashioned way, she called me last week, and we arranged to meet for lunch today since she was going to come up anyway for the opera (some 4 hour russian thing).

it was good catching up - she's one of those friends that you can chatter with even though you haven't seen each other for a while. and we've arranged to watch a play next Monday so i can tick one more thing off my List. (today's List item was "visit cafe at Foyle's". i should get into Foyle's itself).

i wish i could have talked to her more deeply though. she remarked to me how everyone around her seemed to have issues and in the throes of depression and i thought to myself - "and i'm presenting that to her too? arggghh." i wanted so much to tell her that despite my issues or funny tales as i call them - i am Glad (as pollyanna was in a deranged sort of fashion). i am glad for the little things in my life, the blessings of friendship and time and most importantly and right now - the opportunity to be here. i am glad because of His provision, protection and love, in spite of my foolishness and smallness of mind.
