meeting K

P very ably helped me find out that bus 49's route took one to shepherd's bush so off i went in the afternoon, to recce (as we all say) the location for the night's mission - Aimee Mann's gig. i found it easily enough, after stumbling past a shopping centre, and a green patch of grass otherwise known as shepherd's bush green. after collecting tickets, i took the central line to leicester square to meet up with karen for dinner.

it was odd, but i'd never noticed how crowded the place was. today i did - frantic tourists at every single corner. ben & jerry's and haagen daz doing a roaring trade. too.many.people.

but finally meeting K was great =) we had a nice dinner at a sg-m'sian restaurant in chinatown (heheheh) and then off we went to the gig.

we got there just after the opening act started - a Robert Post, from norway, playing guitar pop-rock in the vein of john mayer/jason mraz, not too bad. in the midst of it - we suddenly realised that everyone around us was in their 40's or older. and K pointed out how they all had mullets. it was fairly disturbing to say the least. (that is what one gets for buying level 2 seating and not standing tickets.)

but seeing and hearing Aimee Mann 'live' was an experience alright. she's taller and skinnier than i thought her to be from her album photos, and plays her guitar with an easy lopping gait. i liked her voice. she bantered with the audience a bit, and took requests for encore pieces. the biggest disappointment was not hearing her play Ray, but heh, she played Amateur at least. unfortunately jet lag was causing funny things to my head - i kept seeing that omelette mushroom breakfast food in the flashing lights.

i got back by 1145 and stumbled into bed after a quick shower.
