long day

i had my first tutorial class today, and boy am i bushed. i happened to have been slotted in a class at 6pm, so i get to spend the afternoon doing my readings (which are plentiful and difficult to digest). the other option of course is to dash off for a matinee somewhere, which i hopefully will get to do when Catgirl gets here.

since it was the first class, we all got to introduce ourselves. and i discovered that everyone was an undergrad, save for me and another girl from china who was working in London. it was almost hilarious - i could see every single american film stereotype around me. you had your columbia IR senior, the preppy Harvard Korean american junior, the hardworking girl who was involved in international law/ UN activities since high school. then you have your odd Aussie and french, and what i call the european sorority type contingent. where do all these slim, wavy haired girls come from??? the sorts who sashayed into class and had upswept do's and beautiful mascara-ed eyes, and did not worry about following the lecturer because someone had already preprinted notes for them? then we have the london asian chick (variations seen everywhere) - the long haired, immaculately turned out, heel-wearing, designer-bag carrying girl who studies russian and english lit, or law for that matter.

the best kid i think, is this skinny norwegian boy who began his intro (after the above introductions) by going "i'm 19, and from Norway, and not from a famous school. i mean, i just finished high school...an ordinary high school..." i could not help but grin. and he turned out to be highly intelligent, knowing his materials. he had the weirdest side burns though, perhaps some form of teenage rebellion...i spy an indie heart. hmm.

have gotten my laptop connected at the hall, ethernet cable and all. i discovered that one day of heaving your laptop in your bag causes your mouse to almost disintegrate, (my poor lappy!) and your back to go crazy. you can see my room to your left. it's actually pretty decent by hall standards heh? my food stash is nice and neat, and you can spot that little blue bag that MojoJojo packed for me before i left on my table. yes, the amazing, filled-with-stupendous-things bag that i'm very grateful for.

I've found the sainsbury's nearby, and bought some eggs and vine tomatoes, plus sweetly ripening nectarines. i love the fact that the fruits in season are wonderfully cheap - strawberries, plums, nectarines and berries! i plan to buy some bell peppers next... and mushrooms of course. P has aided me in my cooking endeavours by providing me with condiments and cooking oil (P is the proverbs 31 woman i tell ya!!! =)).

after class today i decided to head towards covent garden instead of back to the hall direct, and it was nice to just stroll through the streets in the fading light. the best part - discovering that M&S opens till 9pm, told to me by the sales clerk who was concerned enough to ask me if i was fine. (I must have looked my usual chao bin self?) later i wandered around the food section for ages before deciding on a soup and some grapefruit juice. i turned a corner and ran smack into someone i know by sight from church - i don't think she saw me, or that she knows me, but it was still so small-world eh?

met up with the Other A.L today again, and she brought me on a short walk to nearby Lincoln's Inn, and the King's College Library.

she helped introduce me to a cute little japanese sushi shop in an alley tucked away in a corner. it's called Sushi=So=Nice. I kid you not.

there were two kawaii japanese girls manning the counter, and i bought a katsudon from them. A.L. got them to give us each a discount card (well, free bento for 32 stamps you get, hoho). I just realised they have a branch off my hall, woohoo. and so we spent our lunch hour eating outside, under the trees near the KCL library, sharing our thoughts, and learning a bit more about each other.

as you can tell, london is cold and grey again.
